Dublin City University was initially set up to fulfil the national requirement for a highly skilled workforce in the areas of business, science and electronics, computer technology, communications and languages.

DCU was the first university in Ireland to introduce work placement as part of its degree programmes, while its degree programmes were also the first to be interdisciplinary - for example studying business alongside languages. Many DCU students study at universities in Spain, France, Germany and Austria as part of their degree programmes under Erasmus exchange agreements.

Accommodation

DCU provides on-campus accommodation for over 1400 undergraduate and postgraduate students, across its three campuses. The university campus accommodation is available for students looking for a temporary one semester accommodation as well as for those interested in full year accommodation.
