Postgraduate Care Leaver And Estranged Student Scholarship

Overview

This £5000 tuition fee award was created to help support care leavers and estranged students to study at postgraduate level.

Amount

One-off £5,000 tuition fee award paid directly to the University towards your tuition fees in your first semester. Students on two year postgraduate or part-time courses will receive the award for their first year only.

Eligibility

You must hold an offer on a full time or part-time Master's course starting in September 2021 at the University of Westminster.

Minimum 2.1 Honours degree.

Be under the age of 25 at the start of your Postgraduate course.

You are not eligible to apply if you already have a postgraduate degree.

Please note that if your course falls into one or more of the below categories then you are not eligible to apply for a scholarship:

• Postgraduate Diploma
• Professional courses (eg RIBA pt III, ACCA, CIMA, CiLEX)
• Conversion courses (eg Graduate Diploma in Law)
• Integrated Master's/MPhil/PhD student

Criteria

f you are a care leaver, you will need confirmation from your local authority that you were in their care under Section 17 or Section 20 of the Children’s Act for at least 13 weeks up until the age of 18. This may be either a letter on headed paper from your Local Authority or you may ask your Leaving Care Team worker or social worker.  Alternatively, you can provide documents from your previous university proving that you were in receipt of a care leaver award.

If you are an estranged student, you need to provide proof that you were assessed as an independent student by way of estrangement by Student Finance England. Alternatively, you can provide documents from your previous university proving that you were in receipt of an award for estranged students.
