Overview

Through the generous donations made by UCL alumni and friends we are able to offer additional undergraduate funding awards each year. These awards enable UK/EU undergraduate students, from a diverse range of backgrounds, to take up their offer of study at UCL.

Listed below are the schemes available to those starting in academic year 2019/20.  By submitting one application, you will then be considered for those schemes where you meet the eligibility criteria.

Application and deadline

  • Please read the online guidance notes before submitting your online application.
  • You need to hold an offer of a place to study at UCL for academic year 2019/20 in order to apply.
  • Please use the Student Finance Online Calculator before completing the online application. It is highly recommended you apply to Student Finance England (or your regional funding authority) as early as possible. You do not need to wait for the outcome of their assessment before submitting your UCL funding application. 
  • If your fee status is unresolved, you will not be able to access the online application. Please contact Admissions immediately to resolve your fee status.
  • Those opting not to take a maintenance loan can still be income-assessed by completing the PFF2 form. 
  • The deadline for the application is: Friday, 5 July 2019 at 5pm (UK time).

The London Opportunity Scholarship is open to students who have taken part in one of the UCL Widening Participation activities listed below. 20 scholarships are available for the 2019/20 academic session.

  • be holding an offer of admission to UCL to study any full-time undergraduate degree programme for the 2019-2020 intake (commencing in September 2019);
  • have accepted UCL as their firm choice;
  • have a household income of £42,875 or less;
  • be part of the first generation of their family to enter higher education (i.e. parents have not been to university).

Selection criteria

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, family circumstances and educational background. 

Value: benefits and duration

The award is £4,000 per year for the duration of the programme and is subject to satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship is awarded to cover maintenance costs.
