Academic requirements
Applicants should have (or expect to obtain) a first-class honours degree and a master's degree with merit or distinction (or equivalent). They should have a track-record of engaging with research. This may include contributions to publications/articles, promoting their research to a wider audience, prizes/accolades for previous research work, setting up research collaborations with other groups etc.

This funding is available to all nationalities.
Other eligibility criteria
Applicants must hold an offer of study at The University of Manchester before applying for this funding.
Candidates in receipt of an AHRC/ESRC/EPSRC fees only studentship are not eligible unless they are also in receipt of maintenance grant from the School or other source at RCUK minimum stipend rate.
Candidates in receipt of AHRC/ESRC 1+3 studentship can be considered for PDS award during their registration on the doctoral programme only.
Candidates must be of outstanding academic standards ie those with a first class honours and/or distinction at Masters level or outstanding equivalent professional qualification and/or experience. Additional criteria include publication record, leadership/engagement potentials and ambassadorial characteristics. The PDS awards are highly selective and will concern only approximately the top 5-10% of the Faculty of Humanities intake of doctoral students.
Current PhD students are not eligible.

Applications for PDS funding and all supporting documentation must be received in the School by Friday 2nd March 2018 at 5pm.
Please note that this is a strict deadline and applications received after 5pm on the date once set will not be included in the competition. Incomplete applications will also not be considered.
In order to ensure that you are ready to apply for the funding, please submit your PhD application by the beginning of February 2018 at the latest. If you are not in receipt of an offer you will not be included in the competition.
