Sir David Akers Jones Hong Kong and China Fund
Overview
The fund provides two scholarships worth £1,000 each. Awarded to two students who wish to study at one of our partner institutions, or undertake a work placement, in Hong Kong or mainland China.
The University of Kent has established this fund in recognition of a generous donation of £20,000 from University of Kent alumnus and former Acting Governor of Hong Kong, Sir David Akers-Jones.
Criteria
Open to all nationalities. Candidates must fulfil the following requirements:
- Be enrolled on a full-time degree level programme at the University of Kent that incorporates a study or work placement abroad in Hong Kong or mainland China.
- Undergraduate students must be entering into their second year of study in 2018-19, and have achieved a first year average of an upper second or above.
- Postgraduate students must be entering into their first year of study in 2018-19.
How to apply

As part of the application process you will need to submit an original essay of approximately 500 words explaining:
Why you need the award and how you will benefit from studying overseas
Save the essay as a Word document. At the top of the document, please include:
- The essay title
- Your full name
- Your University of Kent identification number
The scholarship will be awarded based on the information provided in the application form, together with the clear thinking and motivation shown in the submitted essay.
The University of Kent reserves the right not to allocate the awards if the selection panel identifies no suitable candidates.
