University of Edinburgh ELC
Languages
Overview
If you do not achieve the required English grades to enrol at the University of Edinburgh, then you can improve your language skills at the University’s English Language Teaching Centre. English language courses run throughout the academic year – including the summer – so you can take classes and an examination in Edinburgh prior to your degree starting in September. The Edinburgh English Training Centre (ELTC) is based at Paterson’s Land on the School of Education campus.
A study room with access to networked computers, dictionaries, practice exam materials and borrowable grammar and vocabulary materials are all freely available to students. A dedicated team of Foreign Language resource assistants will be on hand to provide assistance and help across a number of topics.
Services
A number of programmes are available depending on your needs. A year round English Academic Purpose (EAP) course is intended for those who wish to improve their English to prepare for a University of Edinburgh degree, while an in-session EAP course is free and designed for English language support during the study of your degree.
