The scholarship value is £19,000 per year for three years to cover tuition fees and maintenance allowance. Additional funding of up to £2,000 per year is available to support placement, overseas institutional visit, research training and conference attendance at the discretion of the Faculty PGR Committee Chair.

Two PhD scholarships are available for doctoral studies in the Faculty of Humanities, the University of Manchester commencing 2018/19. The funds are made available through the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR) from donation to the University of Manchester. Other eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the entry requirements of the PhD programme.
Students who have already started their doctoral degree are not eligible.
Subject to confirmation from the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR), the proposed research project must be related to the University's philanthropic research themes. Further information can be found on Priorities at Manchester .
Although not a requirement, priority is given to candidates who have identified or developed a potential opportunity to undertake a doctoral placement and/or an overseas institutional visit during their PhD.
Research supervisors must have a proven track record of undertaking research at internationally recognised levels of excellence and regularly publish the results in leading outlets, in addition to the supervision of research students through to timely and successful completion.

Applications and all supporting documentation must be received by the School by 5pm on Friday 2nd March 2018. Please note that this is a strict deadline and applications received after 5pm on Friday 2nd March 2018 will not be included in the competition. Incomplete applications will also not be considered.
In order to apply for funding you must first have applied for a place on one of our PhD degree programmes. We recommend that an application for PhD study is made at least four weeks before the funding deadline.
