LSE Access to Education Undergraduate Scholarships

Overview

LSE offers awards made up of support for the tuition fee and living costs for offer holders holding an offer of a place on an LSE Undergraduate programme whose immigration status is classed as:

  • an asylum-seeker; or
  • a refugee; or
  • a person with humanitarian protection; or
  • a person who is resident in the UK and has been granted Discretionary/Limited Leave to Remain in the UK

Eligibility

  • Students in one of the following categories are eligible to be considered for one of these scholarships:
  • asylum seekers, children of asylum seekers or unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who are seeking asylum in the UK and who are holding an offer for an undergraduate place at LSE
  • those who have been granted Refugee status or humanitarian protection, but do not have settled status in the UK, or their children, and who are holding an offer for an undergraduate place at LSE

those who are resident in the UK with some form of limited leave to remain or temporary status, or their dependants if under 18, and who are holding an offer for an undergraduate place at LSE
Priority will be given to those who are unable to access funding from Student Finance England (or its national equivalent In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland), but each case will be assessed on need.

Scholarship amount

The minimum level of support will cover the difference between the UK tuition fee (£9,250) and the Overseas fee charged under current Fee rules (equivalent to a partial fee waiver). This minimum amount is not means-tested if you are assessed to pay the Overseas fee level.

For 2019 entry, the maximum award was worth up to £20,635, depending on financial need. This is made up of the amount required to cover the payment of the remaining tuition fee and up to £11,385 for maintenance. This part of the scholarship is means tested and will take into account the ability to access funding from the UK Government.
