2019-20 EPH Travelling Scholarships

Academic year 2020

Current research degree students at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) based in the Faculty of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) are invited to apply for competitive funding support for their doctoral projects.

These new EPH Travelling Scholarships are generously funded by Dr Monika Pietrek (alumna - MSc Epidemiology 1991).

Successful candidates will be made awards of between GBP 500.00 and GBP 2,000.00.
Applications will be assessed on:

  • the scientific merit of the proposal; and
  • scrutiny of the submitted budget for feasibility and reasonable economy.

Eligibility for funding

Applicants must be registered for a DrPH or PhD programme in EPH at LSHTM in 2019-20.

As this funding is intended for doctoral projects, any award will only be paid once students have submitted final confirmation of upgrading (or the DrPH equivalent) to the Registry and proof of ethics approval (LSHTM and local, if required).

Applicants should be aware that if their fieldwork is to be based in their home country, then this must not fall in the same geographic region as their residence.

How to apply

Applicants must submit, in a single email to the Scholarships team ([email protected]):

  • a completed 2019-20 EPH Travelling Scholarship Application Form; and
  • a full project proposal, (no more than four A4 pages) which should include:
    • a background statement; and
    • a description of the work to be done; and
    • an account of the benefits to the student's future career; and
    • a description of the features of the institution being visited that make it a suitable venue; and
    • a fully costed budget, which clearly identifies which areas the student is applying for support for.

Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered. Incomplete applications include those with missing supplementary information or documentation as listed above.

By submitting an application for this funding applicants agree to its terms and conditions.

The deadline for receipt of complete applications is 23:59 (BST) on Sunday 17 May 2020. (Please note that this deadline has been amended: the original advertised deadline date was Sunday 26 April 2020, but this was extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Application will close on 17 May 2020

"Last year, I reached out to SI-UK, Jaipur for my Master’s journey, and it has been an incredibly fulfilling and successful experience. From guiding me through the application process to assisting with letters of recommendation and statement of purpose, and even following up with universities, SI-UK provided comprehensive support at every step of the journey. They went the extra mile, assisting with admissions, fee processing, accommodation arrangements, visa guidance, and coordination on medical checkups. I firmly believe that my admission to the University of Birmingham wouldn't have been possible without SI-UK. I highly recommend SI-UK to anyone seeking admission to a UK or Ireland university."
