Overview

The University of Liverpool and the China Scholarship Council are proud to be able to offer a joint scholarship programme for postgraduate research students. This Scholarship programme, which is jointly overseen by China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the University of Liverpool, was established in early 2010.

Amount:

The scholarship covers all tuition fees and research fees and provides living expenses and one return flight ticket to successful candidates. The scholarships are up to 4 years in duration.

In order to be eligible for these awards applicants must:

Be a Chinese national
Meet the requirements of the CSC – please see their website
Hold an unconditional offer to study for a PhD at the University of Liverpool in one of our research areas
Have completed bachelors or masters degree before the agreed start of PhD study.

How to apply

You will need to have secured an unconditional offer of a place to study for a PhD at the University of Liverpool to be considered for nomination.

An unconditional offer letter will not be issued unless the academic department has received all necessary documentation to support an application, including:
Two academic references
Degree certificate(s)
Degree transcript(s)
English language test certificate (minimum IELTS 6.5 with no components lower than 5.5 or other equivalent English qualifications)
Research proposal

Step 1:

Potential applicants should first apply for a University of Liverpool PhD in the normal way. Visit our Applying page for instructions on how to apply. Please state clearly on the PhD application form that you wish to apply for ‘Liverpool CSC scholarship’ funding.

Step 2:

You can apply as soon as you get your student ID (this will be a number beginning '201'). To apply, download the application form (Microsoft Word) and send that along with an academic CV and a 500 word research proposal, outlining your plans to the address on the form.

Step 3:

We aim to notify applicants by email as soon as possible after the closing date to confirm the outcome of the application and we will also notify the China Scholarship Council of the outcome. Applicants will then need to submit the confirmation of award to the China Scholarship Council before their application deadline together with other documents specified on their website.

Please note that the University will not issue a letter offering a tuition fee award only. We will issue a letter if and once you are awarded the entire scholarship.
