Kent Cancer Trust Scholarship Scheme

Academic year 2020
Amount Up to £1,000

Up to £1,000

Due to generous support from the Kent Cancer Trust the School of Biosciences at the University of Kent has a modest scholarship fund. The value of each award will depend on the number and quality of application received, but it is anticipated that the maximum value will be £1,000.

In order to be eligible for this scholarship fund, candidates must:

  • Have, or expect to obtain, a minimum Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent

Scholarship holders would be expected to undertake reasonable duties to support the objectives of Kent Cancer Trust in its aim to promote, support and fund translational research into cancer. The specific roles that the Trust is interested in for 2020/21 are outlined below; you should relate to one or more of these roles in your application. These requirements can be undertaken in scholar's own time and are anticipated to require an hour per week on average, although some weeks will require a little more activity.

Roles for Kent Cancer Trust Scholars
Social Media
Kent Cancer Trust has social media channels and we would like a scholar to take a lead on maintaining and developing the Trust’s social media presence. In your application, outline your experience of this type of activity, and/or what you might do to promote the Kent Cancer Trust with these channels with appropriate, creative content and audience growth strategies.
The Kent Cancer Trust has periodic newsletters which gather together news items and relevant stories. We would expect a Scholar to take a lead on the generation of a newsletter, writing or commissioning content, and editing a final version. In your application, outline your experience of this type of activity, and/or what you might include as content to promote the Trust’s fundraising.
Engagement with clinical community
The Kent Cancer Trust focuses on translational research and seeks to engage the clinical community. A focus for the coming year will be to pro-actively target clinicians to see whether there are any requirements for funding support to pump-prime projects that will benefit patients in Kent. The Trust would like a scholar to focus on this activity, researching relevant clinical groups and contacting them to make them aware of funding opportunities. If you have experience of this kind of activity, please outline it in your application.

"Last year, I reached out to SI-UK, Jaipur for my Master’s journey, and it has been an incredibly fulfilling and successful experience. From guiding me through the application process to assisting with letters of recommendation and statement of purpose, and even following up with universities, SI-UK provided comprehensive support at every step of the journey. They went the extra mile, assisting with admissions, fee processing, accommodation arrangements, visa guidance, and coordination on medical checkups. I firmly believe that my admission to the University of Birmingham wouldn't have been possible without SI-UK. I highly recommend SI-UK to anyone seeking admission to a UK or Ireland university."
