Overview

Andrew Grant, born 1830 in Leith, was an established international businessman, liberal politician, landowner and an alumnus of the University of Edinburgh.  Between 1907 and 1909, he gifted £10,000 towards the construction of the new Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) and left around £350,000 to The Andrew Grant Bequest, to benefit students of the college which it continues to do.

Our Schools offer a rich and vibrant postgraduate community with a broad range of postgraduate programmes and academic research interests.  ECA is now inviting applications from postgraduate applicants/students as per the agreed strategy for each of the five ECA Schools listed below:

School of Art:  Four scholarships of £5,000 are available to continuing on-programme UK, EU and Overseas PG Taught MFA and MA students.   Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered.   Continuing on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in the 2018-2019 academic year.   Please note: New PG Taught students and new/continuing PG Research applicants/students are not eligible to apply for the Andrew Grant PG Scholarship.

Scholarship application deadline: 1 March 2018. 

School of Design: Two scholarships of £10,000 are available to applicants with UK  or EU fee status who apply for admission to PG Taught MA programmes in the School of Design commencing in the 2018-2019 academic year.   Applications for full-time study only will be considered.  Please note: Continuing on programme students and applicants to MFA and PG Research programmes are not eligible for the Andrew Grant PG Scholarship.

Scholarship application deadline: 1 March 2018. 

Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA): Two scholarships of £10,000 are available to applicants with UK or EU fee status who apply for admission to PG Taught Masters programmes in ESALA commencing in the 2018-2019 academic year.   Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered.   Please note: Continuing on-programme students and applicants to MArch, MSc Architectural Project Management and PG Research programmes are not eligible to apply for the Andrew Grant PG Scholarship.

Scholarship application deadline: 1 March 2018. 

School of History of Art:  Two scholarships of £10,000 are available to applicants with UK or EU fee status who apply for admission to PG Research programmes (PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research) in the School of History of Art commencing in the 2018-2019 academic year.  Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered.   Please note:  Continuing on-programme PG Research students and applicants to PG Taught programmes are not eligible to apply for the Andrew Grant PG Scholarship.

Scholarship application deadline: 1 February 2018. 

Reid School of Music: Two scholarships of £10,000 are available to continuing on-programme UK, EU and Overseas PG Research students (PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research - full and part-time study) and to applicants with UK or EU fee status who apply for admission to MSc by Research programmes (one year full-time only).  Continuing on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in the 2018-2019 academic year.  We strongly reccomend that all AHRC eligible UK and EU continuing students should have applied for AHRC (full or fees-only) if they wish also to apply for Andrew Grant funds.   Please note: New PG research PhD, MPhil and MSc by Research (part-time) students and new/continuing PG Taught applicants/students are not eligible to apply for the Andrew Grant Scholarship.

All scholarship award holders are expected to be energetic members of our postgraduate community, and will engage with opportunities to present their work to the wider student and staff body during the period covered by their award.  We offer our postgraduates a range of training and development opportunities appropriate to their programme of study.

Awards

These awards will be tenable for one academic year and will be deducted from your tuition fee with any remaining funds being awarded towards living costs.

Part-time students and students on PG programmes longer than one year may apply but must be aware that this funding is for one year only, therefore, students are advised to budget accordingly.

Eligibility

PG Research - History of Art and Music: If wishing to commence a new PG research programme of study (PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research) in session 2018-2019 you must ensure that you have fully completed and submitted your PG programme application for admission using the University's online system by no later than 25 January 2018.    Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in academic session 2018-2019.

PG Taught - Art, Design and ESALA: If wishing to commence a new PG taught programme of study (MSc, MLA, MA, MFA) in session 2018-2019 you must ensure that you have fully completed and submitted your PG programme application for admission using the University's online system by no later than 22 February 2018.   Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in academic session 2018-2019.

Please note you will not be able to access the online application form unless you have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh.

The scholarship deadline is 1st February 2018 or 1st March depending on the subject area (see above): you are strongly advised to ensure that you have submitted your application for admission at least five working days before the deadline.
