Brian Cooper Scholarship
Overview
The Brian Cooper Scholarship Fund will provide an annual scholarship to a local student in need of financial assistance. This scholarship is available thanks to a very generous donation by the family of Brian Cooper and will enable Durham University to award at least one £13,000 scholarship for several years.
This Scholarship complements the existing work that the University is undertaking to attract talented students from the region to study at Durham.
- The Brian Cooper Scholarship Fund will provide an annual scholarship to a local student with a household income level below £42,875 as assessed by Student Finance England
- Applicants should be resident in County Durham, at the point of submitting an academic application through UCAS for a place at Durham University, with preference being given to residents of the East of Durham. Residence in the East of County Durham is defined as residing in one of hte following postcode regions: DH4, DH5, DH6, SR7, SR8, TS27, TS28 and TS29.

Prospective applicants must:
Stage 1: submit an academic application to Durham University via UCAS prior to the scholarship deadline (31st March 2020)
Stage 2:
Submit the following by the agreed submission date (31st March 2020)
an online scholarship application including a personal statement of no more than 1,000 words describing; your financial circumstances, how the Brian Cooper Scholarship would help you to study at Durham University and why you want to study at Durham University
a character reference from one of your teachers in support of your scholarship application to be sent by email to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk . Please ensure your referee submits the reference on letter headed paper which contains their name, position (e.g. teacher or employer), contact details, the name of the scholarship you are applying for and your full name.
a copy of your Student Finance England assessment letter detailing your maintenance loan entitlement to be sent by email to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk . (If you are waiting for confirmation of your entitlement please submit your scholarship application and forward details of your assessment letter as soon as you can)
