Overview

Naughton Master's in Ireland

University of Notre Dame undergraduates and wish to pursue a Master's degree in Ireland may apply for a Naughton Fellowship to study at one of four Irish universities. Notre Dame students can choose from a diverse range of programs offered at either Dublin City UniversityNational University of Ireland GalwayTrinity College DublinUniversity College Cork, and University College Dublin.

Successful Naughton Fellows will receive a full tuition waiver to their university of choice, along with a $20,000 USD stipend for living expenses.

The Application Process

Applicants must submit both an official application for one of the Irish universities and a completed Naughton Fellowship application form providing his or her personal details, educational history, and preferred program choice, as well as a personal statement.

Receipt of completed applications will be acknowledged by email. Late applications cannot be accepted.

Timeline

All applications are due by 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 2, 2020.

Candidates selected by the Fellowship Committee for interview will be notified by email in late winter.

Interviews will be conducted in late winter or early spring. Candidates will be given at least one week’s notice of the date, time, and location of the interview. 

Important note: The deadline for the Naughton Fellowship application may differ from the date required by the program. Please ensure you check your program's deadline carefully. 

Selection Criteria

The selection of the Naughton Fellows will be administered by the Naughton Fellowship Committee, with the University's diversity statement in mind.

Significant importance and preference will be given to those candidates who demonstrate academic excellence. However, the committee will consider several criteria, including:

  • the interest, ability, and potential of the candidate to study their chosen field;
  • the candidate’s capacity to successfully complete the program of study; and
  • the candidate’s desire and ability to serve as a cultural ambassador abroad.

The onus is on the candidate to complete the appropriate application form to demonstrate the degree to which he/she meets these criteria.

General Terms and Conditions

The committee may, at any stage, seek additional information from individual candidates or referees.

If awarded a fellowship, the student is expected to maintain strong final year grades, apply for and be accepted into the relevant program, and also satisfy any visa requirements.

Within the terms of the endowment, the Naughton Fellowship Committee reserves all rights to modify at any time and/or to terminate this Fellowship scheme and/or to make whatever decisions in regard to the operation of this Fellowship scheme that may be required. Their determination(s) on all these matters shall be final; there shall be no right of appeal.

Each recipient must complete a summary report of his/her research accomplishments at the end of the program.
