New Master’s Degree at Cambridge in Artificial Intelligence Ethics
University of Cambridge has launched a new master’s degree course focussing on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. It is the first of its kind degree in the UK and aims to help society towards a future where AI is used ethically and for good.
The new course, MSt AI Ethics and Society, is developed and taught by Cambridge University’s Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI) in partnership with the Institute of Continuing Education (CFI). It is a specialist programme led by a research centre rather than an academic department and thus incorporates the latest research and experts from diverse areas.
Aimed at professionals working with AI in business, public and social sectors, the programme provides critical skills, knowledge and analytical abilities for identifying ethical and societal challenges. It is a flexible part-time course of two-years duration to suit working professionals.
The University of Cambridge has a rich 800-year history of innovation and leadership across technology and other related fields such as philosophy and the humanities. It is located within the hub of AI innovation which is home to tech giants and start-ups including Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and ARM.
Dr Stephen Cave, executive director of the CFI said, “It’s crucial that future leaders are trained to manage these risks so we can make the most of this amazing technology. This pioneering new course aims to do just that.” He stated further, “We have brought together cutting-edge knowledge on the responsible and beneficial use of AI, and want to impart that to the developers, policymakers, businesspeople, and others who are making decisions right now about how to use these technologies.”
Applications for the course will open in December and the first cohort will begin their studies in October 2021. Are you interested in becoming an expert in ethical AI?
