The University of Cambridge have remained top of the 2017 Guardian University Guide rankings for a sixth consecutive year, while Loughborough University was the biggest winner as they moved up six places and into the top five for the first time.

Other universities making notable moves included the University of Leeds (23rd to 16th), Falmouth University (31st to 21st) and City University London (37th to 18th).  Bob Allison, vice-chancellor of Loughborough University, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Loughborough has been ranked 4th in the Guardian University League Table. This important league table bases its results on the factors that matter most to students, which makes our achievement in it even more rewarding.”

The Guardian’s league tables rank universities according to: spending per student; the student/staff ratio; graduate career prospects; what grades applicants need to get a place; a value-added score that compares students’ entry qualifications with their final degree results; and how satisfied final-year students are with their courses.
